In 2011, I watched my neighbours in Slave Lake lose everything to a wildfire overnight. Some had coverage and had a foothold to rebuild. Others had nothing — and had to start over from zero, depending entirely on the generosity of strangers with no end date on that generosity.
That experience never left me. Today, I run Forge Life as an independent life insurance advisor serving trades contractors and business owners across Alberta. I compare coverage across Canada's top carriers — on price, policy wording, and financial strength — and I put every recommendation in writing. Because I know what it means to be caught without protection, and I don't want that for you or the family counting on you.

Before founding Forge Life, I spent years working as an electrical engineering technologist designing overhead and underground power distribution systems across Alberta. That work didn't happen behind a desk. It happened on job sites, alongside powerline technicians and contractors — understanding what was actually being built, not just drawn on paper.
I watched those men and women work in conditions most people never see. Away from their families for days at a time. Running crews, managing risk, building the infrastructure that keeps Alberta running. And I kept thinking: who's protecting them if something goes wrong?
Not just the worker — but the owner who built the company. The contractor whose family, employees, and business partners are all depending on him showing up tomorrow.
That question is why Forge Life exists.
I didn't want to work for one insurance company and sell you their products. I wanted to work for you.
As an independent advisor, I shop the entire Canadian market — comparing carriers not just on price, but on policy wording and financial strength. Because the fine print is where claims get paid or denied. And because most advisors won't tell you that two policies at the same premium can perform completely differently when it matters most.
I put my comparisons in writing, so you know exactly what you're buying and why. Not because I have to — because you deserve to.
I work with trades business owners — electrical contractors, plumbers, HVAC operators, construction companies — who have built something real and want to make sure the people depending on them are protected if the worst happens.
That means three things specifically:
Personal family protection. If you're gone tomorrow, your family shouldn't have to sell the house, pull the kids out of school, or depend on Worker's Comp that wasn't designed for business owners. I make sure your income, your mortgage, and your family's future are covered by the right policy — not just any policy.
Key person protection. Your business runs because of specific people. If you lose one — including yourself — the financial impact can be severe. I help you identify who your key people are and structure coverage that protects the business, not just the individual.
Business continuity. If you have a business partner, what happens to the company if one of you dies? Who buys out the other's share? Does the surviving partner have the cash to do it? A properly structured buy-sell agreement funded by life insurance answers all of those questions before anyone has to ask them in a crisis.
Most trades business owners I meet have some form of life insurance. Very few have the right life insurance.
Policies get bought and forgotten. Businesses grow. Debt changes. Families get bigger. And the coverage that made sense five years ago may leave serious gaps today.
I offer free policy reviews — no obligation, no pressure. In about 20 minutes, I'll tell you exactly where you stand: whether you're overpaying, under-protected, or both. And I'll put it in writing.
If you've built something worth protecting, I'd like to help you protect it properly.
